High performance 24-bit Audio CODEC's with up to 18 channels |
| San Jose, CA Oct 29, 2008 - AKM Semiconductor (AKM), the world's premier supplier of audio ICs for professional and consumer markets, today launched the AK4614, a high performance 24-bit stereo CODEC with six input and twelve output channels. AKM has previously designed CODEC's with two input and up to eight output channels for multi-channel audio systems including A/V receivers and automotive entertainment systems. The AK4626A and AK4628A, currently in mass production, are widely used for home theater systems, DVD component systems and automotive audio systems, and they are receiving high acclaim. Improving on the AK4626A and AK4628A designs, the AK4614 expands the channels to reduce space requirements and improves performance levels. The AK4614 features six ADC channels at 104dB dynamic range, and twelve DAC channels at 108dB dynamic range.
A time-division multiplex (TDM) audio interface mode is supported to simplify and reduce the DSP interface ports. Both differential and single-ended signals are selectable for the analog inputs and outputs by register settings, enabling a high level of system design flexibility. Additional pin-compatible devices featuring different channel counts are available: AK4611 (4-in, 8-out); AK4612 (6-in, 8-out); and AK4613 (4-in, 12-out). The AK4614 operates at sampling rates up to 192kHz. Integrated features include an overflow flag output detection, channel independent volume control, digital de-emphasis filter and a soft mute circuit. The operating voltage of the digital block ranges from 1.6V to 2.0V, and from 3.0V to 3.6V for the analog core. The operating ambient temperature ranges from -40C to 105C, making the AK4614 suitable for automotive applications. The AK4614 is available in an 80-pin LQFP package, and consumes just 350mW for full operation of all 18 channels. Evaluation boards and samples are available now.
