AK4691 - 4-in, 2-out audio CODEC for multi-channel microphone recording |
| San Jose, CA January 23 2008 - AKM Semiconductor (AKM), the world’s premier supplier of audio ICs for professional and consumer markets, today launched the AK4691, an audio CODEC with a 4-channnel A/D converter and a 2-channel D/A converter. It is the latest member of the Audio2go™ product family, and it is ideal for multi-channel recording applications such as Dolby Digital for digital video cameras and digital still cameras. The AK4691 achieves high quality realistic sound recording with four separate integrated microphone amplifiers, four separate ADC channels, and a digital ALC circuit. For playback functions, a stereo DAC, stereo line out, a stereo headphone amplifier and a mono speaker amplifier are integrated.
The CODEC includes low-noise microphone pre-amplifiers, as well as a power supply circuit for condenser microphones. An integrated wind noise reduction filter and stereo separation emphasis filter are available for both recording and playback. Other features include an ALC circuit, a digital volume control for both recording and playback, a 58mW headphone amplifier and a 400mW speaker amplifier. An integrated PLL supports external system clock frequencies including USB and video clocks, so the AK4691 is able to generate necessary audio clocks internally for playback. Sampling rates range form 7.35kHz to 48kHz and the operating voltage ranges from 2.6V to 3.6V for the ADC, DAC and speaker-amp, and from 2.6V to 5.5V for microphones, line out and the headphone amp. The AK4691 is equipped with a power supply management function for control of each circuit block, helping to reduce power consumption. It is available in a space-saving 57-pin BGA package (5mm x 5mm), reducing board space.
